With grip tape typically coming in solid black the artwork of a deck is usually reserved for the underside. Mob Grip where looking for a way to show the global skate community that their favorite grip was now available in a new clear formula.
We designed and animated a photo-real, 3D product moment that was integrated seamlessly with filmed footage of Erick Winkowski.
Using the product feature as an opportunity to create an unreal moment, we slow time whilst showing off the milky clear rocks of the new formula. A link to that magic feeling of nailing the move and how the tape get's you there.
Mob Grip used the film across all it’s social platforms as well as it's website.
Working with the team at Mob we developed all 3D assets and title animations, as well as compositing.
We paid careful attention to every detail but the transition from footage to cg was the trickiest part. Wanting to honor the artistry of Erik we knew it needed to be smooth. To do this we deconstructed the shot into layers and then reassembled with the cg integration.
